WASHINGTON, November 20, 2019 – The American Petroleum Institute released a new video ahead of tonight’s presidential primary debate highlighting America’s decades-long transition away from its dependence on foreign sources of energy. However, some Democratic presidential candidates are now proposing restrictive energy policies that would erase a generation of American progress.

“U.S. leaders should empower U.S. energy leadership, but restrictive energy policies like a ban on fracking would threaten America's energy security, surrender control of America’s energy future, and retreat from America's energy leadership,” API Director of Communications Ben Marter said.

For more than half a century, U.S. presidents – both Democrats and Republicans – have called for an end to America’s reliance on foreign energy. And today, thanks to technological advances that make energy development safer and more efficient than ever before, the U.S. leads the world in natural gas and oil production, delivering tremendous benefits to consumers while reducing emissions and unlocking a new era of U.S. energy leadership.

Please see below for API’s new video, “America’s Energy Security: A Generation of Progress At Risk?” that will be promoted through a digital campaign targeting the debate location and key 2020 states.
